You can arrive to Varanasi by Air, Train, Bus or Road

Air

The Airport is situated 30 km away from the city centre. You may avail of the Pre-Paid taxi facility and ask them to take you to Dashashwamedh Ghat. The fair is around Rs. 500 and it will take you around an hour to reach.

The airlines reaching Varanasi are:

Spice Jet www.spicejet.com

Jet Airways www.jetaiways.com

Indian http://indian-airlines.nic.in/home.asp

Sahara Airlines www.airsahara.net

Sahara, Jet Airways and Indian have different charges for Indians and Foreigners, as predictable foreigners pay more. For the following reason we suggest Spice Jet and we also suggest you to do the booking online.

Train

The railway station is around 7 km from the city centre. From the railway station you have to ask for Dashashwamedh Ghat. The taxi fare is Rs 150, the Autorickshaw (Threeweeler) is Rs 40 and the Rickshaw fare is Rs 20. We don’t suggest you to an Autorickshaw since it cannot go up to Dashashwamedh Ghat between 8am to 9pm.

Indian Railways has specials seats reserved for Foreign Tourists. You can avail of this facility by going to the Tourist Bureau. The bureau is found at the railway station of most metropolitan cities.

From Delhi

Distance from Varanasi

Delhi: 780 km (enlarge the picture to see it clearly)

Calcutta: 680 km

Mumbai: 1600 km

Train

There are many trains reaching Varanasi, since it is on the Delhi-Kolkata track. The best train between Delhi and Varanasi, according to us, is the train named Shiv Ganga Express (it starts from delhi and ends in Varanasi). It leaves from New Delhi Railway Station at 18:30 hours and reaches Varanasi Junction at 07:30 hours.

Bus

The Bus Terminal is next to the Railway Station. It is around 7 km from the city centre. From the bus terminal you have to ask for Dashashwamedh Ghat.

There are no direct buses from Delhi, Mumbai or Calcutta; there are, instead, busses from Lucknow. From all other cities you will have to go to the bus station, which is usually called Interstate Bus Terminal and ask for information. Bus journey are very inconvenient.
