Organizations differ according the way the component persons associate and relate amongst themselves and with the external environment.  We can therefore have different classifications using as categories the managerial style, the profit or no-profit concern, the ideological background, the public/private ownership, the business sector.  In this manual we are dealing specifically with development aid organization that is characterized by no-profit concern and programme/project purpose management.  A basic assumption of this manual is that the best managerial style for a development aid organization  is of designing and managing itself and its culture in such a way as to make itself :

• a projectized organization;
• a learning organization
• an employee empowering organization

In the chapter of this manual dealing with  the various aspects of managing the development aid organization we will explain in detail why these three organizational features are reciprocally supportive.

But besides the different classifications based on process-related or functional categories, what really classifies an organization is it capacity to generate a positive communication climate that reinforces and maintains its culture in line with its mission and identity.
